The elkMonitor service provides a rich set of features to help you monitor your web site and other services to maximize uptime and your end user experience.
Transactional Website Monitoring
Our new transactional monitoring feature allows you to easily record a 'script' of the transaction you wish to test such as buying an item from your site. After the script is recorded you can add validations to the script to specify what each returned page should look like.
Unlike services that only test a single web page, our Transactional Monitoring allows you to test a complete, multi-step process such as logging onto a site and performing a search and then checking out. Only by testing the complete process can you be assured that customers are able to use your site. Complete performance data is also provide for the overall transaction and each individual step and is available via elkMonitor's real-time report builder.
HTTP, HTTPS, POP3, SMTP, FTP, NNTP and DNS Monitoring
In addition to HTTP and HTTPS checking elkMonitor also supports POP3, SMTP protocols for monitoring email servers as well as monitoring FTP, NNTP and DNS servers. These servers also form a critical part of your online infrastructure and with elkMonitor you can rest assured you'll be notified if they fail. Unlike simple port monitors, elkMonitor performs tests at the protocol level to assure that devices are responding properly.
Notification Escalation
Escalation support allows elkMonitor to send alerts to additional personnel when a failure exceeds a certain duration. For example initial warnings of a site failure could be sent to the first line of support personnel but if a site was still down after one hour then elkMonitor could alert senior support personnel.
Email, Pager, SMS and Cell Phone Notifications
elkMonitor supports notifications via email, Short Message Service (SMS) alerts, Numeric Pagers, Pagers and Cell Phones via email and also Alphanumeric pagers using the industry standard TAP protocol.
Real-time Web Reporting
elkMonitor actually downloads each page and all the elements it references just as a browser would when visiting your site. This provides you with real performance data that reflects the page download times your users are seeing. Our Real-time web reporting interface allows you to summarize this data and even drill down into the details of how long each page element took to download. Data is also categorized by type of content i.e. images, flash, active content, etc. allowing you to assess how these affect your site's performance.
Wireless Device Console
elkMonitor's wireless device console allows you to monitor the status of your devices from any wireless devices such as your internet enabled PDA or cell phone. You can view the status of all your monitored devices and enable/disable monitoring for a device as well as enabling/disabling notifications for a given site.
Content Modification Monitoring
Form Monitoring
elkMonitor can monitor form pages by posting user specified form data allowing you to be sure that pages that process forms are functioning properly.
Multiple Monitoring Locations
This feature utilizes elkMonitor servers across multiple internet backbones in the US to provide detailed performance information on how your site performs from a broad geographic region. This performance data is easily accessed from our web based reporting system. These additional servers are also used by elkMonitor to make sure that your site has indeed failed when an error is detected, our main server checks with each additional server to make sure that they can't reach your site either. This additional checking helps to make sure elkMonitor doesn't generate false alerts.
Secure website Monitoring
elkMonitor can test web sites which require authentication using HTTP/HTTPS Basic Authentication and the username and password you supply.
